It’s my favourite time of year when Pantone release their colour of the year.
It’s the colour of Prince and the Royal Family, Ultra Violet, also known as Pantone 18-3838 is the 2017 colour of the year. Pantone describes the colour as;
Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.
The last colour in this range was back in 2008 when PANTONE 18-3943 Blue Iris was selected. Purple is a complex colour and I think it reflects the complex time we have in the world right now.
Pantone has been naming colour of the year since 2000. The company views its selection as cultural barometer and a visual expression of our collective sentiment. To make its pick, a group of experts in the language of colour–come together to dissect pop culture, food, fashion, product design, technology, and more.
Expect to see more of this colour in 2018. We love it, and will be bringing it into our designs as much as our clients will let us 😉
